Being An Olympic Athlete Is Overrated

Disregarding the overlap between well paying professional sports that are contain in the Olympic arena, being an Olympian in sports such as bob sledding, curling, speed skating, archery, canoeing, swimming, running and so on is severely overrated given that you are training at a professional level and at the same intensity as most professional sports stars and yet rewarded inconsistently. Yeah, you get a gold medal, a few fleeting sponsorships and a month or two of fame and glory, but an athlete such as Lebron James or Peyton Manning are given hundreds of millions of dollars over the course of the careers, unlimited sponsorship opportunities, and fame and glory up the wazoo. With the rare exception that you do win 8 or 9 gold medals in the Olympics and set insurmountably records, in a 2 month window after the Olympics everybody will have already forgotten about you like yesterday flatulence. Wouldn’t it make more sense to train your ass off for a much better rewarding sport? Just sayin….
