Mixed martial arts fighter Jarrod Wyatt is charged with the murder of his sparring partner, Taylor Powell.
Wyatt, 26, allegedly cut an 18-inch hole in Powell’s chest and removed his heart, tongue and most of his face.
Wyatt reportedly was under the was reportedly under the influence of a psychedelic tea made of mushrooms when witnesses said he and his sparring partner, Taylor Powell, became preoccupied with the notion that the end of the world was near and that there would be a final struggle between God and the devil
Del Norte County Police Sgt. Elwood Lee responded to the scene and said that Wyatt told him “Satan was in that dude.” Lee added that Wyatt also said he’d cooked the body parts in a wood stove because he thought Powell was still alive.
Jarrod Wyatt faces a first-degree murder charge, as well as charges of aggravated mayhem and torture. Wyatt’s lawyers will argue that he suffered a psychotic break due to drug use.
If there is anything to be learned from a grizzly murder is to lay off the mushrooms and stick to smoking crack.
