Mihaela Noroc is a photographer from Romania. She quit her job and left everything behind to travel around the globe and photograph the uniqueness of natural feminine beauty in different environments and cultures. She calls her project “The Atlas Of Beauty.”

Her drive stems from an observation of society’s standards and expectations of beauty and how these standards put women in boxes — boxes in which no woman has agreed to.

“Global trends make us look and behave the same, but we are all beautiful because we are different. In the end, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the beholder is always somebody else. My goal is to continue and take photos of women from each country of the globe, making ‘The Atlas Of Beauty’ a mirror of our diverse societies and an inspiration for people that try to remain authentic.”

You can find more of Noroc’s work on Facebook.

    • Never knows best

maybe she only likes good books, you don’t know…

Do you guys regularly steal each other’s articles? So gay.

This is so provincial. Why no bones in the nose? Tattoos? What about metal rings around the neck, so the neck stretches out? Foot bindings? How about about a big wooden disk for the bottom lip?

If you are going to politicize beauty (ie: be anti-American), why not do it right? Because the standards presented here, are only western.

All the girls here are lovely. But you have got to be kidding. If you think I am miss-reading this, you better think again.

  • so…these are some dudes vacation pics of the chicks he nailed?

  • Quonk

WAIT! There are hot chicks in all parts of the world??? – YAAAAY!

Well, what I really mean to say is: Is there any real, novel point to this photo series?
Yes, those are some beautiful girls… according to western beauty standards (or, no, it’s actually really “northern” beauty standards, but let’s not dwell upon this).
But heck, there are ALL KINDS of beauty standards and individual manners of beauty perception all around the world. In some cultures a monobrow is considered attractive, in others it’s a large nose while still others consider big earlobes a sign of beauty. There are millions of individuals who would consider someone attractive whom OTHER millions of individuals would consider downright ugly. So if this photographer’s point was actually to show that real beauty lies in diversity she really only managed to prove that there are people from all over the globe who fit into OUR category of beauty.
