John Lennon and the Quarrymen July 6, 1957. Also the day John Lennon met Paul McCartney

The Quarrymen are considered the beginnings of the Beatles. It was formed by John Lennon in 1956 and later Paul McCartney and George Harrison joined. In 1958 they recorded a little 45 with “That’ll Be the Day” and “In Spite of All the Danger”, a song written by McCartney and Harrison. Eventually in 1960 they decided to explore alternative routes and were joined by John’s friend Stuart Sutcliffe. At first they tried several names in a tribute to Buddy Holly’s The Crickets, including The Silver Beetles, eventually they settled on The Beatles and the rest is history.
