Dewar’s Live True Profile – The Inspirational Mark Bustos

November 12, 2014 | No Comments » | Topics: Humanity |

Sponsored Post

Recently I was forwarded a phenomenal story as part of Dewar’s Live True series. The video profiles Mark Bustos, a 30-year-old hairstylist at Three Squares Studio, a posh New York City salon. Each Sunday, Bustos goes around the city offering haircuts to people who can’t afford them and are mostly homeless. Bustos began cutting hair for impoverished people on a family visit to the Philippines in May 2012 and has not stopped since. He provides free haircuts to as many as six people every Sunday.  His motto is simple: “Be awesome to somebody.”

The inspirational Mark Bustos video is apart of the Dewar’s Live True series which was inspired by the nearly 170 year heritage and history of this quality scotch company. Live True represents the goals, aspirations and lives of authentic people who live according to their own convictions, principles and passions.  Other awe-inspiring profiles include Sal Masekela and famed artist Zio Ziegler among others.

Live True. There is no other way. And there never was.

5 Reasons Why You Should Adopt A Pet

July 15, 2014 | No Comments » | Topics: Animals, Humanity |

1. If you adopt, you’ll save a life

Around 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized each year in the United States simply because too many people give up their pets, and too few people adopt from shelters.

Because there is limited space at shelters, staff members sometimes need to make very hard decisions to euthanize animals who haven’t been adopted.

The number of euthanized animals could be reduced dramatically if more people adopted pets instead of buying them.

By adopting from a private humane society or animal shelter, rescue group, or the local animal-control agency, you’ll help save the lives of two animals—the pet you adopt and a homeless animal somewhere who can be rescued because of space you helped free up.

Awesome Artist Transforms Garbage Into Homes For The Homeless

July 7, 2014 | 1 Comment » | Topics: Humanity |

man transforms garbage into homes for the homeless

Gregory Kloehn is a kind-hearted and crafty artist in Oakland, California who had the brilliant idea of creating small mobile homes for homeless people out of recycled and reclaimed materials found on the street. He began his Homeless Homes Project when he realized that he could apply his artistic and construction skills to help people in need.

The first step is when Kloehn goes dumpster-diving in an industrial Oakland neighborhood prone to illegal waste dumping. He selects parts for his practical architectural creations and puts them together out of whatever he finds – the foundations can be cargo pallets, the door can be a refrigerator door, and the windows can be anything – even laundry machine doors. Every sofa-sized home is built on wheels so that it can be pushed around and has a slanted roof so that rain rolls right off. Otherwise, each home is different – one might have a mirror and another might have shelves or cup.

What’s important, however, is that each one puts a roof over a homeless person’s head – however small that roof might be. Kloehn has enlisted the help of volunteers and even youth from a local high school to help build his creations. To donate to his cause or help out, be sure to visit his website.

Last month, the pig’s owner turned the piglet over to a Clermont vet who decided to help the little guy. Dr. Len Lucero took the pig home and made a wheelchair for him using toy parts.
