I’m a resident of Melrose/Fairfax and own a biz in Weho. What I saw last night was not a protest.
I saw mom and pop shops I personally know looted. This wasn’t one group I saw hundreds if not thousands of kids robbing the very businesses that would rally behind them. I saw butcher get robbed, I saw a nail salon robbed. You didn’t get me woke to anything, if anything I am more conflicted on lines than ever. They destroyed my community for sneakers and hoodies last night. Please keep these businesses in your thoughts, as most of us are mom and pops sorry for rant but I’m heart broken
To the people saying just get insurance, they will do whatever they can to not pay this, just like they did to us for Covid. These are people who barely pulled through and now most likely will shutter forever. Only a day before most of us would reopen. We were so optimistic now we are in tears now.
What happened to George was murder. Not even here to dispute the fact. I am fed up as much as the next with the constant violence and killing of people by police. The point I am trying to make is that while I want to support this movement, I can’t and will not condone violence and hurting of innocent people’s businesses, not every business owner is filthy rich money grubbed looking to maximize profit over people. I am not here to scale murder against theft, we all know what is worst. The point is until the vocal peaceful minority is able to subdue the ranks of people who are looting this will continue to fall on deaf ears and you will lose support from people who agree with your stance but also need to protect their livelihood. I feel as if everyone never learned two wrongs don’t make a right and people just want to play the tit for tat game. The majority of the looters were for sure there for one reason to loot. The world is watching and for every place that burns you lose one more person who might be able to see what’s really going on and join the fight.
