Jutta Leerdam is a Dutch, world champion speed skater. She was the 2017, 2018 World Junior Speed Skating Champion and the 2020 European women’s 1000m champion.
She was born December 30, 1998 in ‘s-Gravenzande, Netherlands and currently resides in Heerenveen
Her father named her Jutta after German windsurfer Jutta Muller. Jutta reveals that she had an amazing childhood and grew alongside 2 sisters and a brother, with 2 amazing parents.
Jutta says she got into the sport of speed skating because of the individual aspect of the sport
“I played hockey for eight years. I enjoyed it, but I have never been a team player. I regularly had to sit on the reserve bench. The individual aspect of skating appeals to me. It never lies. You have complete control over the end result yourself.”
When it comes to training Jutta reveals that she likes weight training and dislikes inline skating
” I like weight training in the gym a lot as well. The main reason being that I’m strong. I like lifting a lot of kilo’s and seeing my progression in kilo’s every week. You can really compare yourself with the kilo’s you lift. I like lifting and seeing the progression every week. My least favorite training is inline skating. It is not comparable to long track ice skating. I don’t like it, but I still do it. Everything I dislike makes me better as well.”
In a video she posted on her YouTube channel, Jutta reveals that she doesn’t have to stick to a nutritional meal plan
"No, I am really happy I never had to. My opinion is that restricting is never good for you & food has to be enjoyable. I love healthy food, luckily. I love cooking. And making healthy recipes. All that matters is that YOU feel good. What I do works for me."
When it comes to school and education, Jutta mentions that she places a high priority on it and plans to use her education after she retires from her sport
When I was 17 I finished my Higher General Secondary Education. After that. I went to Higher Vocational Education in Rotterdam & achieved my propaedeutics. After that I now have my diploma as a Weight Consultant. Now I study Commercial Economics in Groningen. For me it’s really important to keep studying. I prefer to study next to my sport & use my ”brain”. After my sport career. I want to have my diploma. I don’t want my world to rely on my sport and besides that, it’s a nice distraction.
Jutta reveals that her biggest insecurity was her height (5’11").
I used to be insecure about my height. I’m 182 cm tall. Now I accept it. I’m tall, that’s me. I wear heals whenever I want. Now I like it. I love my long legs now. I accepted it & I’m happy with who I am.
Jutta says her favorite body part is her stomach.
It doesn’t matter how much weight I gain. You never see it on my stomach. Thanks mom for my genes.

Jutta has amassed hundreds of thousands of followers online, however she doesn’t want to be known as an influencer.
The last thing I want is being known as the girl from Instagram. Or the girl that looks a certain way. I want to be known as the girl that is a World class skater. And is a winner. And doing a good job on Instagram. The other way around is something I really don’t want. So, Speedskating is my number one & Instagram number two.
Jutta is married to fellow Dutch speed skater, Koen Verweij, who represented the Netherlands in speed skating at the Olympic Winter Games in 2014 and 2018.
