Take 100% responsibility for the way your life is now. The good, the bad and the ugly. Accept that it’s all you. No one else to blame. It was your fault. And forgive yourself completely. You will see that the process of self improvement will become much easier.
You have to forgive yourself for whatever choices you made that have led you to live like this.
I am not saying that it was okay or you continue to live the way you are living right now, but you must move to a more positive and inspired mindset, and for that to happen, you must forgive yourself.
Yes you destroyed your health, you did not live up to your potential, you were a promising graduate that made terrible career choices, you wasted your life in front of the TV, you burnt all your bridges, you hurt the ones you love, you are alone right now and you don’t recognise yourself in the mirror.
Your life is nothing like you had imagined a few years ago. You may be in a better situation than what I just described or you may be in a much worse situation, in any case, you have to accept that this is your life right now and YOU are completely responsible for it.
You made all the choices. Whether knowingly or unknowingly, whether a free choice or a last ditch survival option, whatever choices or decisions were made were 100% yours. This is extremely hard to do, but this is the first step. And the most important step.
It took me months to accept responsibility in some areas of my life. I kept blaming everyone I could. But not anymore.
This is it. I am taking 100% responsibility for how things are right now. Of everything. My poor health. My poor career. My poor social and personal life. I decided to eat carbs everyday. I decided to not go to the gym. I decided to be lazy and not get better at my career. I decided to not admit I was wrong in a relationship. I decided to feed my ego and let hearts break, including my own just to prove a point. I decided to ignore my health for a few more hours of sleep. I decided to let opportunities slip by.
I forgive myself. There were times I didn’t know any better, so I forgive myself for not knowing better. It’s okay. There were times that I knew what I was doing was wrong, but I still did it, maybe due to an addiction, or to prove someone wrong, or because of laziness. Whatever it was, I forgive myself for being an asshole to myself. I forgive myself for screwing up my life. It happened, it’s messed up, but it’s in the past now.
From now on I will be better. I will do things that will help me and I will not self sabotage. If I make any mistake from now on, I will quickly learn from it and not let it define me, like I have done in the past.
This is an exceptional time to take stock of your life. Start of a new decade. Take 100% responsibility of how ever your life is right now. If it’s good – congratulations! If Its bad – it’s okay.
Forgive yourself and find out what is it that is killing you from within. It might take some time, as the real cause might not be surface level, it might be something so deep seated that it is in your blind spot. So figuring it might not be quick or easy, but you will recognize it for sure. Identify it, forgive yourself and then correct it. Make bettering yourself your #1 priority.
Everyone knows that with great power comes great responsibility. But let me tell you, with great responsibility comes great power. Take complete responsibility of your life and you will be the most powerful you have ever been.
