In a remarkable acquisition, American rapper and singer Post Malone has purchased a one-of-a-kind Magic: The Gathering card, known as “The One Ring,” which could be valued as high as $2 million.
Last year, Malone made headlines by spending $800,000 on a rare Black Lotus card, signed by its artist, marking the most expensive Magic: The Gathering card purchase at the time. Now, he has outdone himself by possibly paying up to $2 million for The One Ring card, released in June. This unique card is inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, symbolizing the ring forged for the fearsome sorcerer Sauron. Interestingly, this trading card has found its way to Malone, an unexpected but passionate collector.
The card was sold to Malone by TikTok user Brook Trafton, who discovered it and shared a video that quickly went viral, garnering nearly 4 million views. Upon inspection, the card was found to be in mint condition and was authenticated by Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA).
Though the exact purchase price remains undisclosed, gaming news site TheGamer reported an initial bounty of $2 million for the card when it was released as part of the Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth set. Trafton, a lifelong Magic: The Gathering player, was tempted to keep the card but realized that selling it would be life-changing. He expressed hope that it would go to someone who would value it as much as he did.
Malone, a die-hard Magic fan, has previously shared his story of buying the Black Lotus card and even has cards made in his honor by Wizards of the Coast, the game’s creators. He also owns a special card named “Post the Enchanter,” released in 2021.
Trafton later shared a video of meeting Malone for the sale, capturing the joyful moment. He expressed immense gratitude, calling it a “dream come true” and likening the experience to a fairytale.
