They’re adding another length of rod to go deeper. The brown liquid that sprays out isn’t oil, it’s drill mud which is literally just premixed mud which is added to the hole to help stabilize the sidewalls and also cool off the bit.
The big mechanical brace they move around is used to hold the active rod in place while spinning a different rod in or out.
The brace built into the floor around the active rod hangs the whole drill column in place while extracting, which can weigh tens of thousands of pounds suspended over a hole that can be thousands of feet deep.
The chain is used to create friction and tension on the rod to pull it into place horizontally when trying to slot the next length of rod. In some cases it also provides extra tension when tightening the rod connection.
The stuff he brushes the threads with is pipe thread grease to help disconnect the rods after inducing incredible pressure on them from drilling.

“Corporate speak” refers to the jargon, buzzwords, and formal language often used in the business world. It’s a way of communicating that can sound very professional, but sometimes it can be hard to understand, especially for people who aren’t familiar with the specific terms or the business context.
There are a few main reasons why corporate speak is so prevalent:

Born on April 1, 1898, in New York City, William James Sidis was the son of Boris Sidis, a psychologist, and Sarah Mandelbaum Sidis, a physician. Both parents were Jewish Ukrainian immigrants, and they recognized their son’s prodigious talents early on.
By the age of 2, Sidis was reading The New York Times. At 6, he had already taught himself Latin, Greek, Russian, French, German, and Hebrew. And by the age of 8, he had even written a comprehensive anatomy textbook.

My girlfriend (F40) of 8 months revealed to me last night, rather casually, that she used to be a “serial cheater” for years; and cheated on every partner she ever had until a couple of years ago.
She said at the time she was remorseless, but eventually came to a point she decided it wasn’t conducive to a healthy relationship or her self esteem and decided to stop.
I (M38) have always struggled with trust issues my whole life for a variety of reasons I won’t go into. She seemed to brush this off as little more than an anecdote, but I gotta tell y’all, I’m shook.
I’d like to believe she’s changed and learned from this to become someone who would never do this again. But if I’m being honest, I definitely have less faith in her that I did 24hrs ago. What should I do?

In a recent video, Chris Hansen, known for his investigative journalism, particularly in exposing online predators, had an intriguing exchange with an individual he was interviewing. The individual, presumably caught in a compromising situation, stated that he did not consent to the interview. Hansen’s response sheds light on the complexities of consent, privacy, and the implications of committing a crime.

We’ve all been there. A friend is telling you about a problem and you jump in with what you think is an obvious solution. But instead of being grateful, they get annoyed. “I just need to vent!” they protest.
When someone is upset, our first instinct is often to help “fix” the situation and make them feel better. But sometimes people don’t want advice or solutions. They just need to express their frustrations out loud to a sympathetic listener.
