“The Toxic Avenger,” released in 1984, is an American superhero black comedy splatter film that quickly became a cult classic.
Directed by Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman, the film was the first installment in “The Toxic Avenger” film series and also stars Mitch Cohen, Jennifer Babtist, Cindy Manion, and Robert Prichard, became a surprise cult hit.
Produced by Troma Entertainment, the movie is known for its campy concepts, low budget, and gruesome violence.
The plot revolves around Melvin Ferd Junko III, a meek janitor at a health club in the fictional town of Tromaville, New Jersey.
After being harassed and pranked by a group of bullies at the health club, Melvin falls into a drum of toxic waste.
This accident transforms him into a hideously deformed mutant with superhuman size and strength. As the Toxic Avenger, Melvin takes on the criminals of Tromaville, delivering his own brand of justice.
Andree Maranda played the role of Sara in the film. Sara is a blind woman who becomes the love interest of the Toxic Avenger.
In a pivotal scene, a group of men attacks Sara, killing her guide dog and attempting to assault her. The Toxic Avenger intervenes, saving Sara and exacting revenge on her assailants.
Following this encounter, Sara and the Toxic Avenger form a deep bond, with Sara seeing past his monstrous appearance and recognizing the hero within.
What happened to Andree Maranda after “The Toxic Avenger”?
After the Toxic Avenger, Andree Maranda stepped away from acting and focused her efforts on her singing career.
Maranda put out a handful of pop musical singles, mostly with the independent label NFS Records.
In 1986, Maranda released the single “Rich Boys” and was followed in 1987 by the single “(Love Is Like An) Itchin’ In My Heart.”
In 1989, she released two more singles – “Doctor’s Orders” which was a 12″ vinyl, and “45 Reasons."
Andree Maranda has maintained a very low profile on social media in recent years. She has a Facebook page under her name, but her last post was in 2015.
The only other social media associated with Maranda is a YouTube channel also under her name. On this channel, she previously uploaded videos of live musical performances, however, the last video upload was back in 2011.
With no Twitter, Instagram, or other major social media accounts tied to her, Andree Maranda has essentially no current social media presence in 2023.
