1. In CA, it’s not that hard to make 300k.
Depending on how you manage your OT, it can be a ton of effort or minimal effort.
For me, it’s easy as pie to make 260-300k. I’m not beating my body up. I choose when I work so that helps tremendously.
If you stay on top of your OT, you can pick and choose when to work. We use an evergreen to determine who gets first dibs at overtime.
Also, all OT is double time. It just makes it that much easier.
At SCE, you will make 200k without even trying. I was hitting 250-265 and hardly worked weekends. Just picking up hours during the week here and there.
My gig is even better now that I’m transmission, 300k with minimal wear and tear.
2. I’m just an ape but, in the greater Seattle area it’s pretty easy for lineman to clear $200k. Hell I’ve had a couple of foreman who grossed 400k the last couple years. (These guys take every call)
3. I’m in Houston working 50-60 hours a week clearing 200+ easy.
4. When I was just a foreman 5 years ago I was at $185,000. I was at a utility and pick and chose the OT I wanted to come in for. I’d say on average I was working 50-60 hours a week. Most weeks it’s 40 hours but it averages out higher because of the storms when you work 16 hour days for all overtime.
A regular journeyman lineman was making $160,000.
I know at contractors you can make a hell of a lot more but you’re working and traveling more. I thought what I was getting paid for being home on most weekends was a perfect fit.
This was when I was still living in the Midwest. California with a camper is the way if you’re young.
5. I cleared 230k last year and barely even worked ot. Cali is where the money is lol
6. I’m a groundsman with the 1245 (Northern California), with a fair bit of over time I can net about 90k+. There are guys I know who make a good bit more than me but they are working insane hours.
7. Around my area a topped out lineman makes over $100k before their package, O/T, and per diem. Hell a first year apprentice is going to make more than the $70k they tell you is the upper limit if they do ANY O/T
8. 200-250k as a JL in the northeast.
9. I’m a JL for a union contractor in the Bay Area. On my current gig working days you can do ~300k gross a year pretty easily. On night work it’s ~400k plus, it all just depends on how much you take off from work. Mind you, no PTO or stuff like that. If you don’t work, you don’t get paid. However, insurance and retirement are pretty good and we’re only working between 70 and 80 hours a week.
10. I’m finishing up the first year of my apprenticeship and I’ll hit about 115k this year.
11. I made about 180 last year as a second year apprentice (I pretty much lived at work with all the OT) I’ll be at about 110 without any OT when I top out next year.
12. I make $250k a year only working 50 hours a week! I know guys in Cali that r making over 500k a year! When I was out there I was bring home $9,000 a week working 6 days a week
13. We are about 125k on 40 hrs. Chicago land area
14. I’m in Michigan and our Journeyman make around $50/hr. I made $152k last year (first year apprentice, much lower pay) but that’s cuz I work an extreme amount of over time.
