Life Is a Problem Machine, So Stop Expecting It Not to Be

Most of us walk around with this unspoken assumption that eventually, life is going to settle down.

Once we pay off the debt, get the promotion, find the right relationship, lose the weight, or finally get our shit together, things will be easier. We’ll reach some magical point where the problems stop coming and we can finally relax.

Except that point doesn’t exist.

Life is a problem machine. You solve one problem, and another one rolls off the assembly line.

You get a better job, and now you have more responsibility. You buy a house, and the roof starts leaking. You find someone you love, and now you have someone you can lose. You have kids, and suddenly your heart is walking around outside your body, making terrible decisions near sharp objects.

Every improvement in life comes with a new set of complications.

And that’s not a design flaw. That’s the deal.

The mistake isn’t having problems. It’s believing that having problems means something has gone wrong.

Think about the happiest, most fulfilled people you know. Their lives aren’t free of stress, uncertainty, or disappointment. They’ve simply stopped treating every inconvenience as evidence that life isn’t working.

The goal isn’t to build a life without problems. It’s to build a life with problems worth having.

The stress of raising a family you love. The exhaustion of pursuing something meaningful. The discomfort of growing into someone better than you were yesterday.

These aren’t obstacles standing between you and a good life. In many ways, they are the good life.

So stop waiting for everything to calm down before you allow yourself to be happy.

There will always be something to fix, something to worry about, something that doesn’t go according to plan.

You don’t get to finish life and then enjoy it.

You have to learn to enjoy it while it’s still under construction.
