I’m sick of boomers telling gen Z and millennials to “suck it up” when we complain that a $60k or less salary shouldn’t force us to live mediocre lives living “frugally” like with roommates, not eating out, not going out for drinks, no vacations.
Like no, we NEED these things just to survive this capitalistic hellscape boomers have allowed to happen for the benefit of the 1%.
We should guarantee EVERYONE be able to afford their own housing, a month of vacation every year, free healthcare, student loans paid off, AT A MINIMUM.
Gen Z should not have to struggle just because older generations struggled. Give everything to us NOW.
I get it, you feel like you’ve been dealt a crap hand. You think you deserve a cozy, enjoyable lifestyle just for gracing the world with your existence. You want to blame the generations before you for not making everything sunshine and rainbows. Boo fucking hoo.
Here’s the hard truth: life doesn’t owe you anything. Not a cushy salary, not exciting nights out, not even your own place to live. The world is not a wish-granting factory, and the sooner you realize that, the better off you’ll be.
You know what you do deserve? The freedom to make your own choices and deal with the consequences. The opportunity to work hard and create the life YOU want, not have it handed to you. The chance to find meaning in the struggle, to build resilience, to grow the fuck up.
Previous generations faced hardships too – war, poverty, discrimination, you name it. They didn’t expect anyone to save them. They put on their big kid pants and did what they had to do.
Now, I’m not saying the current system is perfect or that there aren’t real issues to address. But this entitled attitude of “I shouldn’t have to deal with any discomfort or make any sacrifices” is a straight path to a miserable, unfulfilling existence. A meaningful life is about what you have to offer, not what you think you’re owed.
So here’s my advice: stop wallowing in self-pity. Stop waiting for the world to give you what you think you deserve. Take ownership of your circumstances and start putting in the work to create the life you want. Develop valuable skills. Live below your means for a while. Hustle. It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it.
Because here’s the thing – you are not a helpless victim of the generations who came before you. You have agency. You have grit. You have the power to craft a life of meaning and purpose, even when it’s a pain in the ass. So stop whining and start doing.
The world doesn’t owe you a damn thing. But you owe it to yourself to embrace the suck and find a way forward. That’s the path to a life well-lived.
Toughen up and get after it.
