A San Diego police officer, Anthony Hair, has resigned from his position following an investigation into an August 2023 incident where he was found locked in the backseat of his patrol car with a female detainee. The incident came to light after newly released bodycam footage showed the woman propositioning Hair for sex.
Hair, a two-year veteran of the San Diego Police Department (SDPD), left his post about a month after the probe was initiated and just one day before his second scheduled interview with investigators. The incident occurred after Hair arrested the woman, who remains unnamed, on suspicion of car theft outside a convenience store. She also had an outstanding bench warrant for her arrest.
According to protocol, Hair was supposed to transport the suspect to police headquarters and then to the Las Colinas Detention Center in Santee, California, for questioning. However, bodycam footage reveals the woman making sexual advances toward Hair, asking him if he was married and stating, “I’m down to f–k right now.” Hair interrupted her, reminding her that everything was being recorded.
As they approached the detention center, Hair turned off his bodycam and slowed down while driving on a residential street. Approximately 20 minutes later, he called for assistance from a fellow officer to help him out of the locked patrol car, describing the situation as embarrassing.
While Hair claimed he was merely “checking” on the suspect in the back and believed she was experiencing a medical emergency, investigators found traces of semen on his belt. The woman stated, “He wanted to get with me when I was done with the warrant or whatever I got arrested for.”
It remains unclear if Hair will face any criminal charges in connection with this incident. The San Diego Police Department has not provided any further comments on the matter.
