My Life with a Munchausen’s by Proxy Parent

You don’t wake up one day and realize you’re being abused. Especially not when the person doing it calls herself your protector. When I was little, I thought my mom was the only thing standing between me and death. She would stand at the pharmacy counter, hurling questions at pharmacists about my “condition,” rattling off a list of foods I couldn’t eat, symptoms I supposedly had, illnesses I might be coming down with. She seemed so convincing, so urgent. I never questioned it. I thought that’s what moms did.

What You Hate in Others is What You Hate in Yourself

What you can’t stand in other people—the thing that grates on your nerves, lights your fuse, makes you roll your eyes and mutter under your breath—yeah, it’s almost always the thing you secretly can’t stand in yourself.
I know, I know. That stings a little. But hang with me.

“I think I broke my husband”

I could really use some advice about what’s going on with my husband and me. I’m 27 and he’s 28. We’ve been married for four years. He’s an introvert, probably a little bit on the spectrum, and has a room full of hobbies—sim racing, LEGO, soccer analysis, the works. That space is his sanctuary, and he’s always loved sharing it with me.
But recently, I lost my temper during a moment of frustration and said some really hurtful things. I told him his interests bored me, said he needed friends, and even questioned why I married him. I didn’t mean any of it, and I feel horrible about what I said.
The Most Important Financial Decision You’ll Ever Make

When most people think about their biggest financial decision, they picture buying a house, investing in the stock market, or choosing the right career path. But the truth is, none of those choices will impact your financial future as profoundly as the person you choose to marry.

“How to not cringe at things you did in your early twenties”

I’m 27 now, and I keep replaying all the cringey things I did in my early twenties. I’m talking about getting too drunk, making a fool of myself, and honestly just not being the best friend or version of myself. It feels like I have to learn everything the hard way.
Sometimes I said or did embarrassing things. Sometimes I drank too much at work events. Sometimes I was just plain annoying to be around at night. Looking back, it makes me cringe.
The thing is, I’m actually proud of who I am now. All those mistakes shaped me into the person I am today. But I still have trouble forgiving my younger self. I keep wondering—how did I not know better?

“Is becoming a stripper worth losing my relationship”

I’m 24F, and I did everything I was supposed to—went to college, got a degree, and now I’m $25k in debt I can’t pay off. Since graduating last year, I’ve applied to 200+ jobs, had only two interviews, and just one offer—for the same pay I made before college. I’m barely scraping by, just covering rent and my car note, and honestly, I feel like a failure.

How to Raise a Child to Be Insecure

If your intention is to raise a child who second-guesses their every move, who scans the world for signs of disapproval, you don’t need dramatic gestures. All it really takes is to make love something they have to earn. Let your affection ebb and flow with their behavior—offer a smile or a kind word only when they’ve done something to make you proud, but let disappointment settle in the silence whenever they falter. In time, your child will learn to measure themselves by your moods, to wonder if today is a day they’re worthy of being hugged or a day to keep their distance.
