How Were Pilots Chosen To Become Kamizakes?

It’s one of the most infamous images of World War II. A lone Japanese aircraft, smoke trailing, diving straight into an American warship. No attempt to pull up, no last-minute ejector seat. Just a fiery explosion, a pilot willingly riding the plane to oblivion. The Kamikaze.
To us in the 21st century, the idea seems incomprehensible. Why would a young man, barely trained, volunteer for certain death? Were they all fanatic warriors, blinded by ideology and eager to die for the emperor? Or was something else at play?

How to Stop Complaining About Your Life and Actually Change It

By now, you’ve probably heard some version of this phrase: “If you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep getting what you’re getting.” It’s one of those truths so obvious that we tend to ignore it. Like how eating an entire pizza by yourself every night is probably why your jeans don’t fit anymore. Or how blowing up at your spouse and then wondering why your marriage feels distant isn’t exactly a mystery.

15 Homeowners Reveal the Most Ludicrous Quote They Ever Received from a Contractor

1. I had to call a plumber because a toilet float was busted and I couldn’t remove it no matter how hard I tried. They came and “found” all sorts of things “wrong” and quoted me almost $4k. A quick visit to Google and 1 phone-a-friend showed that they were full of sheet. I finally had to break the overflow tube to get it off but successfully replaced it for $15.
It was replacing whole toilet and completely (and unnecessarily) disassemble the bathroom and main drain (loo, sink, shower) to “bring it to code.”
The Endless Feed: A Day Without Looking Up

I wake up and before I even move, before I even stretch, before I acknowledge the existence of the room around me, I reach for my phone. It’s not even a decision—it’s muscle memory, some primal, Pavlovian impulse. My hand, fumbling over the nightstand, finds the smooth, familiar shape, and there’s a brief flicker of anticipation before my thumb presses the button. The screen glows. The world opens.
I don’t check the time. I check notifications. The dopamine drip starts early: three texts, one missed call, a handful of emails, a notification that someone I don’t remember following posted a new photo of their overpriced meal at a restaurant I’ll never go to. I see it, I absorb it, I keep scrolling.
