Don’t confuse annual salary with total compensation. The companies I worked for kept the “base pay” relatively low. In the lean years (and there are always lean years), living on the base pay was a challenge.

Migrant Mother, by Dorothea Lange – A 32-year-old mother of 7 children, Nipomo, California. February 1936.
Dorothea Lange took this photograph in 1936, while employed by the U.S. government’s Farm Security Administration (FSA) program, formed during the Great Depression to raise awareness of and provide aid to impoverished farmers. In Nipomo, California, Lange came across Florence Owens Thompson and her children in a camp filled with field workers whose livelihoods were devastated by the failure of the pea crops.
Complaining Has Zero Positive Impact On Your Life

Life isn’t fair.
Get the fuck over it.
Complaining has zero positive impact on your life.
You waste valuable time, you put yourself in a negative state of mind, make yourself really unattractive, and repel people like magnets because frankly…
No one else cares, nobody wants to hear about it.
Not your best friends. Not your mom. Not your girlfriend. No one.

Confession of the Day

There’s always someone who ended up in a worse situation with a bigger loss. Every time I hear those stories, it makes me feel a little better that it “could have been worse.” Hope this helps someone realize how bad it can get before you ultimately end in the same place, with the same loss, and the same need for help. It’s also therapeutic to write it down, I’ve found.
What’s It Like To Get Arrested In Japan?

I’m not a violent or evil man. I’ve paid all my taxes, never got into fights, never joined gangs, reported found wallets, helped the disabled, etc. Didn’t even drink till I was 20!
Arrest to the station:
As I was going to work, a guy stopped me and asked me if I was (my name). I told him yes. He told me he was with customs. Then 5-6 guys surrounded me as to prevent me from fleeing. Another guy came up to me and showed me a search warrant (later fond out he was the leader of the search party). I had to oblige as I thought saying no would just make things worse.

In Japan you can hire actors to pose as short/longterm spouses, children, friends, etc. A man was hired to pose as a girl’s missing father by her mother for over 8 years without his “daughter” knowing
37-year-old Ishii Yuichi is a father to over 25 families and a husband to over 600 women – but none of them are his real family members.
Together with the 1,200 actors he employs at his company Family Romance, he has played every part from stand-in father for a wedding, missing dad to long lost son and even make-believe groom in his job as a companion for hire.
