Most television shows end the way people leave parties.
They say goodbye to a few people, linger awkwardly by the door, promise to keep in touch, then disappear into the night. Maybe there’s a heartfelt speech. Maybe someone sheds a tear. Maybe the camera slowly pans away while sentimental music plays.
Little House on the Prairie did not leave the party.

Addict in recovery here. I’ve done it all sorts of ways. At first, you feel the happiest and freest you’ve ever been. All your hangups and inhibitions are gone. You feel better than you ever have. You’re horny beyond belief, and will do absolutely anything to satisfy that.
Beyond that, you are jittery, like you’ve drank 6 energy drinks in ten minutes. Your heart is going so fast that your Apple Watch sends out an alarm every 15 seconds. You jump at every little noise, like someone popped up and screamed at you in a horror movie. You somehow end up spending 4 hours trying to wipe all the tiny crystals off of your bed sheets, because you want to make sure that every single speck is used. You’ve hit up every single person on every dating app within 50 miles trying to find a single person to get naked with. By now it’s been about 5-6 hours, and if you haven’t done more by now you’re surely going to.

I’m 38M, my wife is 43F. With our son away this week, I’d been looking forward to spending some one-on-one time together. She ended up taking a short-term job out of town, which was disappointing, but I supported her. She asked me to come visit for dinner, which I thought was sweet, so I canceled my plans and drove a couple hours to see her.
When I arrived at her hotel, some of her crew were in the lobby. One asked if she was joining them for dinner, and she said, “No, I’m having dinner with my friend.” She didn’t introduce me, just gave me a quick hug and walked me upstairs. Afterward she explained that she had told her coworkers she was married, but in their group chat she’d said a “friend” was visiting because she thought it would look unprofessional to tell the director her husband was staying at the hotel.
Most people solve problems by copying what everyone else is doing.
Someone wants to get in shape, so they download the same workout plan their friend uses. Someone wants to start a business, so they copy a competitor’s pricing. Someone wants to save money, so they cut out coffee because that’s what every personal finance article tells them to do.
Sometimes that works.
But when the problem is complicated, unusual, or important, copying other people’s solutions has a major weakness: you’re assuming they understood the problem correctly in the first place.

My wife (27F) and I (28M) have a 9 month old daughter. My wife left her job to stay home with our daughter until she’s old enough for preschool.
Our daughter is on a pretty predictable schedule. Every morning around 6 AM she wakes up crying. I usually handle that because I have to get up for work anyway. I calm her down, get her back to sleep, then get ready for work. I leave for work around 7:30.
