Victor Wembanyama is one of those rare athletes who breaks your brain a little the first time you watch him.
At first, you think it’s the height. He’s 7-foot-4. That’s obviously part of it. But the NBA has seen tall guys before. We’ve seen giants. We’ve seen shot blockers. We’ve seen players who could dunk without jumping.
I am a coward and a weak man, and have always been . I avoid conflict and take shit from others, when I was younger I never fought back when people picked on me or even hit me, because I always thought that they were stronger and I only wanted it to end.
Even as an Adult I have been avoiding it, wether it be in the workplace, school, or with friends (changing the way I talk or hiding my opinions to please others), while telling myself that it’s better “to keep the peace” but in reality it is simply because I am afraid of the confrontation and do not want to upset anybody in anyway.
Nobody prepares you for the fact that some of the most painful breakups in your life won’t be romantic.
They’ll be friendships.
There won’t be a dramatic fight. No screaming match. No cheating scandal. No final conversation where someone says, “I think we should see other people.”
One day you just realize you haven’t talked to them in six months.
