Relationship Matters: ‘Dating someone who makes half as much money as you’
I’m (27m) living with my girlfriend (27f) of several years and am thinking about marrying her. I make double what she makes in a year. We don’t pay for any expenses the other has (car notes, gym memberships, student loans, etc), and on shared bills we split it 2/3rds, me and 1/3rd, her. I find it difficult navigating shared financial situations with her because I don’t want to contribute more than my 2/3rds, and sometimes she doesn’t have the money to put towards it.
Anyone else in my situation, and how do you navigate your relationship finances?

The Importance of Delayed Gratification in Building Wealth
Alright, let’s talk about one of the most crucial concepts when it comes to building serious wealth: delayed gratification.
Now, I know what you might be thinking. “I want everything, and I want it immediately!” Believe me, I completely understand. In our world where everything from coffee to messaging to Netflix is available at the push of a button, instant gratification is the norm. However, when it comes to managing your finances, success lies in playing the long game.

Life Matters: “I finally realized how exhausting it all is.”
Typical weekday: Wake up. Put on clothes. Brush teeth. Wash face. Make coffee. Sit down at desk to start the work day. Read the news/see what’s going on in the world. Work…avoid work…work…avoid work. Check social media for no reason. Check my stocks that never make money. Avoid laundry. Avoid cleaning cat vomit. Do some online shopping for household items. Avoid opening delivery boxes/mail. More work. Make lunch. Clean kitchen. Clean cat vomit. Open packages. Maybe go for a walk. Back to work. Do some laundry. More work. Maybe work out. Make dinner. Clean dinner. Watch some mindless TV. Pretend to care about sports on TV. Shower. Go to bed. Do it all over again the next day.

The Most Sophisticated Piece Of Software Ever Written
The most sophisticated software in history was written by a team of people whose names we do not know.
It’s a computer worm. The worm was written, probably, between 2005 and 2010.
Because the worm is so complex and sophisticated, I can only give the most superficial outline of what it does.

Money Matters: ‘Elderly parent has significant debt and no job’
My mom (70) “retired” a few years ago despite not being nearly financially secure enough to do so. Cut to today and she currently has 6k remaining in her 401k with no other savings, and is just over 100k in debt (43k remaining on mortgage, 23k car debt across two cars, 25k credit card debt, 10k in other loans).
Monthly expenses including minimum payments on all loans is $4k ($1k housing, $520 utilities, $800 food/necessities, $675 car payments, $1k credit card/loan payments), and she gets $1.5k a month in social security benefits, so there is a $2.5k deficit that needs to be paid each month which she has been paying with a combination of credit cards and 401k withdrawals.

Life Matters: ‘Are we a lost generation?’
Are we a lost generation?
I’ve heard millennials referred to as that, and I’m just curious what everyone else thinks. I wonder if that’s true, that everything going to pot in 2001 with the war, 2008 with the real estate market and the ensuing social/economic malaise that has followed would make us a lost generation.
I can’t help but look back and almost feel a sense of betrayal, but that seems almost too harsh of a way to describe it. The social and economic damage that my parents generation did absolutely derailed us from what I have gathered. I don’t blame them, but at the same time I just can’t believe a whole generation would be so careless to live as though there would never be a reason to worry about tomorrow.
